Crack down
Every morning for the past week I have passed a big police crack-down.
Between 4 and 8 police officers congregate every morning on the corner of Jean Mance and Rene Levesque to bring law and order to Montreal streets. They are working hard to make the streets a safer place for all of us and, in fact, this morning when I walked past they were writing no fewer than 4 tickets…for j-walking.
The good news is, with 8 police officers spending their time catching j-walkers on their way to work, the park is a little bit safer for dogs off the leash. And believe me, with the sun shining and snow melting - finally - the dogs need to run around off leash a bit to get their spring fling in before the police migrate up from Rene Levesque and target their next crack down on another major threat to our security - people who walk their dog off leash in the park at 7am on a weekday.
The whole endeavor actually reminds me of a daylast fall when we went to Ikea. There were half a dozen police officers walking through the parking lot making sure that the car doors were locked. Bert and I thought that this was a very nice thing to do.
Turns out that it’s illegal to leave you’re car unlocked in Montreal - the police officers were handing out tickets to everyone who’s door opened.

WTF? That’s a ridiculous law, and it’s a complete waste of tax-payer’s money too. People should start rigging their door handles up to a battery and give them a shock. Although I bet there’s a fine for that too.
