Why my husband rocks

February28

You know, we whine and we complain but it the end I have to admit that my husband is a pretty great guy. Here I am sitting around waiting for a job that may or may not appear and most people agree that I’m doing the right thing, that good old Jaime is in a sucky position but if she’s just patient then she might find herself doing something awesome.

Bert is training for the Olympics. You see, most people have the following reaction:

Step 1: Cool! What sport?

Step 2: Wait, how old are you?

Step 3: What about work and stuff?

Step 4 (for his friends): Cool! Can you get me into the athletes village.

Now the unfortunate thing is that most people get caught up on Step 3 and throw around phrases like, “when is Bert going to grow up?” and “what does Jaime think about all this?”.

Wake up people, it takes way more courage to chase a dream then it does to show up every day for a nice cozy 9 to 5 job and Jaime knows that there’s no way she would have the guts, dedication, and weird obsession with torturing the body that it takes to become an Olympian.

It is to all you nay sayers then (none of whom proabably read this bl0g) that I say…Bert rocks!

(whisperes aside) and you suck.

La de da

February27

I’m boooored. I have a bit of work to do today (non-paid of course) and a lot of other little things that I need to get done before the end of the month (stupid short month) but I’m still bored.

I guess everyone had bored days: the ones where no matter how many breaks in routine occur, the day passes in a blur of ‘I wish I could be napping instead’. Oh I’m not tired, not at all, it’s just that napping makes the time pass faster, if I could nap for the whole day it would pretty much be like skipping today to move on to tomorrow.

Tomorrow has the potential to be much more exciting because:

1. It actually is the end of the month
2. My potential boss is meeting with his boss to discuss me (yay me)
3. It’s the day before recycling day (ie my third favorite day of the week after skating day and recycling day itself)
4. We always seem to get the good mail on Tuesdays
5. Becuase I want it to be more exciting damn it

Anyway, blogging while bored can’t be fun for any of my readers so ’till tomorrow…la de da

Aniversary

February25

Yep, believe it or not Bert and I have been married for a whole year. Speaking of ‘believe it or not’ the only memory I have of living in Calgary is of my Dad trying to convince me that he could fly across the room…but only if I closed my eyes. Perhaps it was a sign of things to come that at the tender age of five I just couldn’t bring myself to believe that my Dad was a superhero. I played along though.

Anyway, back to the aniversary thing. I never understood couples who used cute names with each other. In fact I swore that the words sweetie, honey, snookums, etc. would never pass my lips except in mocking. And yet, only a year after getting married ‘honey’ has become a staple of my new vocabulary. I don’t know how it happened or where, along the crazy journey that is my life, I managed to control the gagging wretch that I always thought I would become upon use of such terms. But there you have it. Bert is ‘honey’.

I, on the other hand, am ‘chica’ along with (creepily enough) Bert’s sister. I guess I should respect Bert’s integrity. His ability to resist cheese should be admired, especially in the face of my giving-in-ness.

By the way, my word-of-the-olympics comes courtesy of the CBC alpine skiing announcer who coined the beautiful term - sticktoittiveness - sorry if I spelled that wrong.

Happy Birthday Bert

February23

Today is Bert’s birthday, the last one before the big 30. Bert, being an Olympian in training does not enjoy getting older (although he’s by no means delving into the depths of despair). I however, am looking forward to getting older, until I reach the age of 32. I want to stop aging then.

Anyway we have a rule in our family that if you don’t like a birthday present you have to say so, so that it can be returned for something else. I really like this rule because it allows me to take risks in terms of what I buy. This year the risk was a jacket. A very cool jacket which isn’t quite Bert’s usual style…we’ll have to see what the verdict is.

Anyway, for Christmas I got Bert movie passes which came with a ‘free admission on your birthday’ pass so we’re off to the movies this afternoon. I really love getting stuff for free, especially since I think they added that pass on the assumption that very few people would actually use it…ha, got ya there Famous Players.

Happy Birthday Bert!

Silver Lining

February21

I hope (knock on wood) to be working by this time next month which means that I should be appreciating every day that I have now.

I know that in a month (hopefully) I will look at a day like today when all I did was walk the dog (twice), clean the house, and shop for presents, and it will be a vacation day.

So I appreciate the days I have now and focus on that…it distracts me from wanting to rush things.

When I have a sore throat now I can curl up on the couch and not get dressed until noon.

When I crave peanut butter cookies now I can just pop into the kitchen to bake them.

When I’m bored now I can grab a book or flip on the tv.

When I feel like calling someone now I just pick up the phone.

So you see, if I squint hard enough I can see that silver lining.
