Booourns

December21

Ok, I’m slipping into a pre-Christmas funk because I don’t think that Christmas morning is ever going to get here but the bills are. Yeah I just opened a huge cell phone bill from last month when I was obliged to spend hours on my cell phone for this big important presentation that was tacked on at the end of the meeting. There’s nothing like getting a bill for work related stuff when work is actually volunteering…and not by choice.

I want everything to be merry and bright. I want Santa, with his sleigh full of gifts to bring me closure: you know, tidings of comfort and joy and all that junk. Well the guests have arrived so I’d better go do the hostess thing.

Merry Bloomin’ Christmas

Things I Noticed This Weekend

December19

1. No news is not good news…it’s torture

2. Every dog looks cute when they’re running through a foot and a half of snow

3. Weekend + Holiday Season + Shopping Mall Parking Lot = Hell on Earth

4. Almond crescent cookies are even better frozen

5. My toes are definately not better frozen

6. Assuming the worst of people is really an exausting endeavor…it’s not worth it

7. I suspect that it’s impossible to eat too many mandarin oranges

8. George W. is a very scary person

Resolutions

December17

I know I’m supposed to wait until New Years to make my resolutions but the holiday season does seem to magnify personality flaws like no other season can. And so, I am preparing my resolutions list as I go, all through the month of December. For now I have:

1. I resolve to be more sympathetic - I don’t know what it is about me but now that I’m living with a husband I’ve realized that I am a bit unfeeling when it comes to injuries. Yesterday we were snowshoeing and Bert took a tumble (might have had something to do we me taunting him into doing stupid stuff) anyway he hit his leg on a rock and instead of being all ‘oh honey are you ok?’ I laughed. When he told me later that night that his leg hurt I coldly told him that I was sure that he just bruised it. Now regardless of the fact that I was right, it really wouldn’t have killed me to have offered to get Bert ice and ibuprofen or something.

2. I resolve to stop allowing myself to make excuses for being lazy - yep, I’m still waiting to hear about my job and once again I am going through the ‘I should have given up six months ago’ stage. But I didn’t give up and so I’ve been using this vague promise of a great job as an excuse to put my life on hold. No more excuses….the promise of another job may be justification for turining down a job offer but it is no justification for stalling when it comes to the rest of my life.

Waiting Game

December15

I am still waiting…and going insane!

At what point do people forget that there are real live people waiting for decisions that get caught up in silliy little games. I kid you not, in three weeks I will ‘celebrate’ the one year anniversary of the hiring process for the position I’m hoping for.

Perhaps it’s time to cut and run; I have never been known for my patience but sheer stuborness has brought me this far.

Am I fighting a losing battle? Have I put my life on hold for a pipe dream?

Somewhere out there the decision has pretty much been made but it still hasn’t trickled down to me.

Ah, sigh…

I Spy

December13

So in one of my typical random thoughts it struck me that there are some things which I expect to see, maybe not on a regular basis, but every once in a while, which I can’t recall having seen at all over the past year. For example, in all of 2005 (so far) I haven’t seen:

1. A pregnant woman walking a dog

2. Anybody riding one of those two-person bicycles

3. Twins (except Bert’s cousins babies in pictures)

4. A motorcycle pizza delivery guy

5. People talking in sign language

6. A parent freaking out at their child for running after a ball into a street

7. A dog herding a runner

8. People being rude in New York City (granted I was only there for four days…but still)

I guess there’s still three weeks left.
