Dog walking and more

August3

Ok, so three or four times a week I get up early and take the dog up to the park before the 8:30 am now-it’s-illegal time. Quite often Mr. G is there and over the past few months we have spoken about topics ranging from his sons’ swim meet to his childhood as the son of a political criminal in an Eastern European country.

Like most other people I had slotted him in the ‘talk while we walk our dogs’ category although once we did meet him just in front of our house and so had him in for a glass of wine. Over the past month, though, Mr. G has been inviting Bert and I up to his cabin. Now Mr. G is over 70 so I’m not really sure what we’d have in common. He also thinks that Bert is a bank teller called Steve (despite having met Bert on two ocassions). He is also under the impression that I was born in South Africa.

So far I haven’t felt the need to embarass and correct him but he found out that my Mom is coming out so has invited us all up to the cabin. I can’t turn him down much longer without hurting his feelings but I’m really not sure about taking that step over the line from dog-walking buddies to guest at his cabin.

What should I do?

Oh I have no idea. How awkward. Good luck

Is it just me, or don’t many horror movies start with an old man inviting the young photogenic couple up to his place in the woods for the weekend? In case you were wondering, I would politely turn him down, even at the risk of causing offence. I would also make sure Meeka is between you and him if he ever appears offended, just in case…

Or maybe I just watched too much Twin Peaks growing up…
