The good old days
July25
Five signs that I’m getting old:
5. It took me almost a minute to figure out how old I’m turning when someone asked the other day.
4. I have a mother-in-law
3. Even though I’m not planning on having kids at the moment, I am considering maternity leave when planning my next job
2. When I walk through the university campus, everyone looks so young
1. When people talk to their children they say things like “ask the lady” instead of “ask the girl” when referring to me.

If you in Singapore, item (1) would be more like, “Ask the Auntie”. Real sign of your age - when the neighbourhood kids promote you from jie jie (older sister) to auntie (random older lady, typically of your mother’s age). I still cringe when called Auntie Hsin…
Hey I still got into the youth tent at camp. They teased me that I ought to put red streaks in my hair to cover the grey. When I said ok theylaughed and let me in anyway!
Yeah it really is amazing how many ways society devises to remind us that we’re old and supposed to be responsible.
oh my word - i was at a wedding this weekend of the son of family friends. The - i can’t call him man - boy in question was friends with my brothers when they were at primary school. He and all his friends are about 10 years old in my head which is when I last saw them all. It was so weird to see all these 10 year olds being grown up blokes and one of them actually being the one tying the knot! It made me feel old but also old and on the shelf, especially when I overheard my mother, having been asked whether she was going to be a mother of the bride anytime soon, saying “oh well, B, she hasn’t even got a boyfriend of ANY description let alone a potential husband so no time soon…” How bitchy is that?!
